It was an honor to be invited to judge the 45th Connecticut Art Director’s Club Awards along with a panel of esteemed design leaders.
Check out the replay of the awards show where I select my Judge’s Choice (mark 7:25) and collectively deliberate Best in Show. Thank you to Logan Galla and Michael Marques for inviting me to participate in the judging alongside Diego Vainesman, Moira Hendrickson, Dian Holton and Evan Stremke. I was so pleased to join you!
My judges award was very clear decision for me—I had a few favorites, but the one that really stood out with the video for Graphic Design at the University of Connecticut. It brought me back to that feeling of pure excitement that I had when I made the decision to go to design school at Carnegie Mellon. For this video it wasn’t necessarily about the production—but the subject together with music, movement, and energy.
I welled with emotion to that time in life –almost dancing in my seat, excited to be a designer again. It combined both digital design and analog creative moments – I appreciated the rhythm and motion of it all.
And I can see successfully doing the job it was set out to do—which is important for any good design—and that is to promote UConn design and attract new students to the program.
I was so pleased to discover that another judge nominated it for the Spirit of Creativity award because it really captured that feeling for me.
